Arbeit ist deutlich teurer geworden
Im vergangenen Jahr sind die Arbeitskosten in Deutschland so stark gestiegen wie noch nie in diesem Jahrtausend. Im Vergleich zu 2021 wurde der Faktor Arbeit um 3,2 Prozent teurer, geht aus einem Bericht des Statistischen Bundesamts hervor.
Das war der höchste Anstieg seit Einführung des Arbeitskostenindex im Jahr 2017. Grund waren Tarifsteigerungen und Sonderprämien, die vor allem in der Industrie für einen überdurchschnittlichen Anstieg von 4,3 Prozent sorgten. Noch deutlicher als die Brutto-Entgelte (plus 3,0 Prozent) stiegen die Lohnnebenkosten. Hier hätten sich mehr Krankentage und gestiegene Beiträge zu den Sozialversicherungen bemerkbar gemacht, berichteten die Statistiker.

WALMART TO HIRE 40,000 US WORKERS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON
Walmart Inc. plans to hire nearly 40,000 US associates in several seasonal and full-time roles for the year-end holiday season, according to a post by Walmart Senior VP of Field People Maren Waggoner.
In 2021, Walmart added 150,000 jobs for the holiday season.
The associates will include seasonal store associates who will provide in-store and pick-up and delivery services, full-time, permanent truck drivers, and customer care associates, according to the company.
Waggoner wrote the company will offer additional hours to current associates and present the opportunity to temporary workers afterward.
Walmart’s average US wage is more than $17 an hour, with many associates earning more based on role and market.
Waggoner also wrote the company has recently increased wages for pharmacy technicians and truck drivers.
Additionally, Walmart provides medical coverage; a PTO policy that includes paid sick leave; and a 401(k) match, including an associate stock purchase plan match for qualifying associates.

Tongan PM requests longer NZ work visas during tsunami recovery
Seven months after Tonga’s tsunami the Vakaloa Beach Resort in Kanokupolu is a wasteland of destruction.
Huge slabs of concrete ripped from the foundations, corrugated iron wrapped around trees amidst a landscape that’s been tipped upside down.
The former resort is fenced, owner Maryanne Tuku’afu in Australia. She told 1 News the family have decided to take a break before returning “if we will be given the opportunity to rebuild and start over”.
She says the family are still awaiting a response from the Government for cleanup of the beaches, road and infrastructure.
“We aren’t able to move from ground zero until the public site is cleaned up first,” she says.
In Kanokupolu village which is a little further inland what looks to be business as usual, isn’t.
Many of the residents worked at the resort and now aren’t able to support their families.
Aisea Taukei’aho says on top of that it’s now hard to grow food as rocks and silt have affected the soil.
“It's very difficult now because we are having to rely on other families from outside the area to feed and support us we are not used to doing that,” he said.
There’s calls for New Zealand to help out by providing work permits to those impacted by the tsunami.
Tonga’s Prime Minister Hu’akavameiliku Siaosi Sovaleni says it would be great if there was a possibility for a longer work permit than the current seasonal workers scheme “so workers can take their families to New Zealand hopefully that will mitigate some of the social issues we are experiencing”.
New Zealand Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta has confirmed the Government is looking at looking what can be done but is mindful of stripping the Kingdom of its domestic workforce.
“That is a matter that has been discussed – absolutely an opportunity to discuss further what we might do to play a useful role,” she said.
It's an essential role – given Tonga’s road to recovery is far from smooth.

Grundsatzurteil: Unternehmen müssen Arbeitszeit erfassen
Bisher mussten Arbeitgeber nur Überstunden und die Sonntagsarbeit ihrer Beschäftigten erfassen. Das wird sich in Zukunft ändern. Dann sind Unternehmen dazu verpflichtet, die gesamte Arbeitszeit ihrer Mitarbeitenden festzuhalten. Das hat ein Grundsatzurteil des Bundesarbeitsgerichts in Erfurt klargemacht.
Eigentlich ging es bei dem dazugehörigen Fall vor Gericht nur darum, ob Betriebsräte auf die Einführung eines elektrischen Arbeitszeiterfassungssystems pochen können und bei dieser Thematik ein Initiativrecht haben. Das haben sie nicht, entschied das Gericht. Die Begründung für diese Entscheidung machte den Beschluss zu einem Grundsatzurteil: „Eine betriebliche Mitbestimmung und ein Initiativrecht sei ausgeschlossen, wenn es bereits eine gesetzliche Verpflichtung zur Arbeitszeiterfassung gibt.“ Und die gebe es in Deutschland – zumindest in der Theorie.
