【France】Growth in temp jobs to slow going into next year

Temporaryemployment growth in France is expected to slow down going into next year, according to a report released Tuesday by the French NationalInstitute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee). The report estimatesFrench temp jobs will rise by 3,000 in the first half of 2018. That compares toan estimated increase of 18,000 in the second half of this year and an increaseof 28,000 in the first half.

Thereport, however, noted temporary employment had increased rapidly and hasalready exceeded the levels it had reached before the economic crisis of2008-2009. Industries seeing particular increases in temporary jobs includedtransport equipment manufacturing and transport-warehousing services.

Lookingback at 2017, temporary employment fell by 1,000 jobs in the first quarter, androse by 29,000 in the second quarter and 11,000 in the third quarter. The forecastfor the fourth quarter is an increase of 7,000.

Totalnonfarm market payroll in France is expected to have risen by 242,000 jobs thisyear, and the pace should be maintained in the first half of 2018, with 100,000jobs to be added, according to the report.
