Guide dog candidate finally lands job after discrimination ordeal
A disabled jobseeker who claimed that he was denied an interview because he used a guide dog, has finally been offered a job.
London-based developer Conspexit have offered computer programmer Ian Brooks a job, after his story went viral on social media in February, alerting to the firm his struggle to find employment - BBC reports.
The firm specialises in creating apps for those with visual impairments.
In February, Brooks told Somerset Live that he was invited to interview with an unnamed firm, reassured that his visual-impairment would not be an issue.
However, when he mentioned his guide dog he received a call from the rec agency that organised the interview, Vector Resourcing, telling him that the client had changed their mind.
He never learnt the name of the firm but Brooks believes that he was discriminated against.
At the time, Brooks said: "The government wants disabled people to get back into work but it's not easy because we have barriers in our lives but then there are agencies who hear you have a disability and then it seems like they shut the door on you."
The Equality Act 2010 states that employers must make "reasonable adjustments" to allow disabled candidates to attend job interviews.
In his new role, Brooks will work remotely.
