IT hiring in US toincrease in second half of year, Robert Half Technology says

Chief informationofficers in the US plan to add a more IT staff in the second half of 2017 thanthey did in the first half, according to the new Robert Half Technology ITHiring Forecast and Local Trend Report.

The survey found21% of CIOs in the US plan to add full-time technology professionals to theirteams, a five-percentage-point increase from the first half of the year.

Sixty-four percentof the CIOs surveyed said they plan to hire only to fill vacant IT roles. Anactive hiring environment has intensified competition for IT talent: 63% of ITexecutives said it's somewhat orvery challenging to find skilled technology professionals today.

According to ITexecutives, the skills in greatest demand within their department include:

Databasemanagement: 53%

Windowsadministration: 53%

Desktop support:52%

Networkadministration: 51%

Wireless networkmanagement: 51%

When asked aboutthe greatest contributing factor to IT hiring in their area, nearly a third ofrespondents, 31%, cited a growing number of businesses opening up in theirmarket.

The top fivecities where CIOs report IT job growth sparked by new businesses are:

Houston

Los Angeles
