Why are more & more US states banning the salary question?
A trend is emerging by which more and more firms are banning the infamous salary question in candidate interviews.
American states are going one step further and actually making it illegal for employers to ask jobseekers what their current, or most recent, salary is.
The thought behind this decision is to bridge the current gender pay gap, giving candidates an equal playing field and the chance to be paid what they deserve - rather than as little as possible.
Philadelphia, New York and Massachusetts are planning to roll out the changes by 2018. Illinois, Maine, Maryland, New Jersey, New York state, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont are considering similar measures - AOL.com reports.
Earlier this year, Taylor Byrnes, from Winnipeg in the US, thought she had done well in a phone interview for a food delivery company, SkipTheDishes.
However, after sending a follow up email asking about salary and benefits her second interview was initially cancelled.
AOL.com
