"BMW needs to reflect on this extraordinary vote in favour ofindustrial action and the real possibility that its UK workforce will strikefor the first time under its ownership in the coming weeks," said LenMcCluskey, general secretary of Unite

Union officials will now meet to set strike dates, though theycalled on BMW executives to reopen talks to try to avoid a downing of tools.

A spokesman for BMW said the company "prided itself in providingexcellent pensions for its staff and wants to act now to protect future pensionprovision for its UK workforce" and was "disappointed" at the result of theballot.
