Uber's president resigns, adding to the company's turmoil

Uber's president has resigned after just six months onthe job, the ride-hailing company confirmed Sunday.

Uber didn't provide public comment explaining JeffJones' departure. But the tech blog Recode, which first reported hisresignation, said Uber Chief Executive Travis Kalanick told employees thatJones decided to resign after Kalanick announced his intention to hire a chiefoperating officer earlier this month.

Jones, a former chief marketing officer at TargetCorp., told Recode that his values didn't align with Uber's.

"The beliefs and approach to leadership that haveguided my career are inconsistent with what I saw and experienced at Uber, andI can no longer continue as president of the ride sharing business," hesaid in a statement.

Jones' resignation continues a tumultuous 2017 for theSan Francisco-based company. Uber's troubles have included backlash overKalanick's role advising President Trump, sexual harassment allegations, avideo showing Kalanick lashing out at a driver, a lawsuit by Google spinoffWaymo, and the revelation of a secret program that mined user data in an effortto thwart regulators.
